Hi beauties. ☼
Who else is lazy when it comes to washing their makeup brushes? Because I know I can be!! *tut tut*
As you may know I’ve been away with my sister this weekend, after taking brushes away with me I like to give them a deep clean. I was about to wash my makeup brushes & thought why don’t I make a blog post? so that’s what I’ll be showing you today! 🙂
What you need;
This is easy-peasy, you’ll only need 3 things; some sort of oil, I like to use baby oil but you could use olive oil, any anti-bacterial handwash & a pot to mix them in!
First put about a tablespoon (don’t need to measure it) of the oil & a pump or two of the handwash into the pot, you can always add more if needed. The oil will deep clean the brushes, oil helps break down the product better, the anti-bacterial handwash will ensure your brushes are clean & sanitised. It is important that the handwash is anti-bacterial!!
The next step is to swirl your brush into the oil/handwash mixture, when you see colour coming out of the brush I tend to swirl the brush into my hand (the same motion you would on your face!!) to massage the mixture into the brush to break down the product further.
Once you have broken down the product by massaging the mixture into the brush you can then rinse the brush. REMEMBER to keep the brush pointed downwards at all times, this is so the water doesn’t run into the barrel of the brush & corrode the glue (this is how brushes start shedding hair!). I tend to do this under a running tap to ensure all the product is rinsed out of the brush!
Once I know the brush is clean, I dry it off by doing the same swirling motion onto a clean towel, it probably won’t be fully dry after this but I just make sure it’s not dripping wet. I then re-shape the bristles of the brush so that when it dries it maintains its original shape!
Lastly I leave my brushes to dry completely. The best way to dry your brushes is either keeping them faced downwards (probably the best way as the water can drain out the brush end!), I put them in the Real Techniques brush holders upside down & hang them on the radiator, or you can leave them laid flat! I usually just leave them to dry on top of the radiator, this has in no way damaged my brushes, they’re still as good as new! 🙂
My question to you; What is your favourite brush cleanser?
I hope this post has helped you. As always if you have any questions please feel free to comment below! xo
