Makeup of the day

Makeup Of The Day!♥

Hi beauties. ☼

YES! Finally a makeup of the day, oh how I’ve missed these! *like this post to see more!!* 🙂

So, yesterday I decided to have a play around with my eyeshadows, well my beloved Sleek Au Naturel palette. The look I came up with was quite simple looking, but I LOVE it. I created matte eyes, with a flawless base & nude lips!

To be honest, I’ve been obsessed with matte eyeshadow over shimmers recently. It looks more subtle & wearable for everyday wear, especially as I wasn’t going anywhere fancy, just running some errands.

Right, enough babbling, lets get on with the look…

wpid-20150311_105957.jpg

I didn’t picture each step, it is that simple, there’s a few colours used but only with a light hand, as I wanted a subtle matte contour to the eye!

Firstly, I put a wash of the colour ‘nougat’ all over the lids, right upto the brow bone, this just gives an even colour to work on top; making blending so much easier!

I then went in with ‘toast’ in my crease as the transition shade. This just gives darker colours a transition, making blending (yes, you’ll see the key to this look is blending!!) effortless. I use windscreen wiper motions to blend the colour into my crease, I blend this colour to the point where my eyebrows start (shown below).

matteyes1

To deepen up the crease a bit I went in with a mix of ‘nubuck’ and ‘cappuccino’ over the top of ‘toast, I only used a small amount at a time & built up the intensity until I got to the desired effect. With this look (& most other eyeshadow work) blending is the absolute key, also building up colour is essential, as the end look will look far more seamless than if you try blend a ton of colour from the get go!

Once you’ve reached your desired intensity I like to go in with an even darker shade; just to give that extra definition to the very outer corners. To do this I used ‘regal’, this is my favourite shade in this palette, it makes my green eyes POP! I place a small amount right in the outer corner & blend it into the crease, but not all the way into the inner corners like the other colours, only about half way!

wpid-20150311_105948.jpg

To finish the look off I but ‘regal’ along the lower lashline & added a generous amount of my Kiko mascara (comment if you’d like to see a review!!) to my top & bottom lashes. This just defines the lashes & balances the bottom of the eyes with the top half.

Makeup Reviews

Review: MAC Prep & Prime!♥

Hi beauties. ☼

Last month I received a sample of MAC’s Prep & Prime – I applied for it through MAC’s Facebook page; they must have had some sort of promotion for it as they were giving quite a lot of people the chance to apply for the sample. Anyway, I was soooo excited when it arrived in the post. Inside a shiny black parcel envelope was my MAC sample, it came in a cardboard box like casing (pic below) & obviously had MAC’s embellishing on it.

wpid-20140802_203612.jpg

I thought it looked so cute, the packaging is so sleek & small as this is a 6ml sample! Which to be honest, is a decent sized sample 🙂

What MAC claim:

An ultra-fluid lotion formulated with special-effect silicones. Calms and soothes the skin, blots away excess oil, and evens out skin redness. Improves the lay-down and application of foundation or powder.

Do I agree with these claims?

Yes, I’d say I do agree with these claims. When you apply Prep & Prime you can feel that silicone feel to it, however, when you squirt out some of the product it looks more like a cream. This is what I think ‘calms and soothes the skin’, which I’d agree it does as I have felt no irritation on my skin what-so-ever since using it 🙂

The fact that this is a cream-y silicone formula does ensure your makeup glides on effortlessy, while smoothing over pores & any imperfections.

Does it keep oil at bay? Yes I’d definitely say it does. I get quite oily in the t-zone & when I’m wearing this my makeup stays perfect pretty much all day (or longer than it would without primer!)

wpid-20140802_202701.jpg

Here you can see that the formula of this product looks like a cream, however, the texture once you rub it on your skin is that of a silicone based primer (which it is!). The below image shows how smooth & soft it makes your skin look. Yes I did apply way too much on my hand, but I wanted it to be visible in pictures.

wpid-20140802_202737.jpgAs you can see it looks so soft on the skin. I used a bit too much on my hand as you only need a pea sized amount for your whole face.

Although I think Prep & Prime is a great product, I couldn’t ever justify spending £21 on the full size (30ml) as my GOSH Primer is soooo good. It practically does the same as this for a fraction of the price (click here for my GOSH Primer Review). Despite the fact I wouldn’t buy it, I would definitely recommend it if you can afford it. It is a fabulous primer & I will definitely continue to enjoy my sample!!

Overall I give MAC’s Prep & Prime a 4.5/5, I absolutely love the product, I just wish I could warrant spending the money on it. I highly recommend you give it a go if you’re wanting to try a high-end primer 🙂

Have you tried MAC’s Prep & Prime? If so, what did you think of it?

Thank you beauties for reading, have a fabulous day xo

Lots of Love Natasha ❤

Disney

Disney Series: Belle!♥

Hi beauties. ☼

So when I asked which Disney Princess you’d like to see, Ariel & Belle won. As I did an Ariel inspired look last time, it’s time for Belles inspired look 🙂

If you’d like to know how to create this Belle inspired look then keep reading…

Base

base

As always I started off with a freshly cleansed face. To prime my skin I used MACs Prep & Prime (review will be up soon!!). I then went on to apply my Revlon Colourstay Foundation with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. To conceal my under eye circles I used a small amount of Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, I tapped this into the skin using my ring finger. This is the most delicate finger & the warmth from your finger helps the product melt into the skin better 🙂

Eyes

eyesFor the eyes I wanted to keep the look simple so I decided to just use this quad from Avon, it’s the True Colour Mocha Latte Quad! I used the light pink shade all over the lid, I then took the light brown shade in the crease as a transition shade. To deepen the outer corners I sketched in a  winged sort of look to the outer corner & blended inwards but not past the half way point on my lid. To make this look even smokier, I used the metallic brown shade in between the pink & dark brown colours, this is so the colours transition nicely from light to dark. As this is how you achieve a great smokey eye!!

To emphasise the lashline I used my Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl in Black along the upper & lower lashline & the tightline. I drew a very thin line on the top & smudged it out slightly to add to the smokey effect! I then did the same to the lower lashline & carried the liner up towards the brow to create a cat-eye effect to the look. To open the eyes I applied my Rimmel Kohl in White to the lower waterline.

This wouldn’t be a flirtatious Belle look without fluttery lashes, so to top the eye makeup off I used Benefits They’re Real Mascara!

Brows, cheeks & lips

browcheeklipBrows

To start off with I combed through my brows with the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara (medium deep), this gives quite a bit of definition so you could stop here. But to ensure my brows where nice & precise I went in with my brown brow pencil to fill in any sparse areas!

Cheeks

For the cheeks I kept it very simple, Belle always looks blushed in the films but not overly pink. So I went with a peach blush, the one I used was Natural Collection Blush in Peach Melba 🙂 I placed this on the apples of my cheeks (to find where this is, smile & it’s the high bit you get under your eyes!) & swept the colour back. I find this application method to be the most flattering.

Lips

To Complete the look I opted for a simple lip. I just decided to line my lips with my ELF Long Wear Lip Liner in Mauve Luxe!

Hair

hair

To make this look more polished I put my hair into a bun. I then added in a small rose hair grip into the back of my hair as this look wouldn’t be complete without a rose! I also pulled out some short strands of hair around my face to frame my face a bit!

wpid-img_20140803_154542.jpg

Here is the completed look. I hope you all enjoyed my Belle inspired makeup look! This is such a wearable look, either day or night, I think it’s timeless (very fitting for the Disney story!). Let me know what you think 🙂

Thank you for reading beauties, have a fabulous day! ☼

Naked Lunch, Satin Taupe & Sketch.
Makeup Reviews

MAC Eyeshadows Review!♥

Firstly, sorry for the lack of posts, it seems like I haven’t posted in ages (well to be honest, its been a while!) but I’ve been busy with life and work, I’m sure you all know how it is, but I do promise I’ll keep on-top of posting more in the future. Thanks for the follows I have received, it means a lot to me, if you would like any reviews on certain products just let me know, I’m more than willing to do them for you!

Anyway, on with the post…

20140113_162406Naked Lunch, Satin Taupe & Sketch

After much deliberation I have finally bought my first MAC Eyeshadows, Naked Lunch (Frost finish), Satin Taupe (Frost finish) & Sketch (Velvet finish). At £12 an eyeshadow I had always questioned whether they were worth the money and hype they have received in the past, but finally I caved & decided to treat myself to colours I know I’d wear on a daily basis, which to be honest I have done, they have fast become part of my new daily eye makeup routine.

MAC claim that their eyeshadows are;

Highly-pigmented powder. Applies evenly, blends well.

This claim by MAC, in my opinion, is true. From the first application the product is very pigmented and easily built up to get an even colour pay-off you see in the pan. Also I have found them a dream to blend, I use Satin Taupe & Sketch in the crease of my eye and I can honestly say they make creating an eye makeup look effortless.

MACs Eyeshadow Finishes

Frost finish eyeshadows contain small pieces of shimmer that create an iridescent to the appearance of the eyeshadow, some can be more metallic than the other (from the image of ‘Satin Taupe’ & ‘Naked Lunch’ above you can tell they are very shimmery colours). Although frost finish eyeshadows are popular they have been known to crease (I have not found this) and are shimmery rather than having big pieces of glitter.

Velvet finish eyeshadows are more matte than the frost finish and may only contain a hint of shimmer, it just depends on which shade you choose. The above image of ‘Sketch’ shows the true finish of a velvet eyeshadow as it is demi-matte (only a hint of shimmer). I have heard that this finish is known for being patchy when applied to the lid, but I haven’t noticed this at all, it goes on beautifully.

Lustre finish eyeshadows are known to be a dry, shimmery texture with big pieces of glitter and a pearly look to them. They have been known to have lots of fall out, but since I haven’t used this finish of eyeshadow before I couldn’t give you my opinion.

Matte finish eyeshadows have no shimmer/glitter to them. They are a flat colour with varying opacity to them. They are often used in the crease or all over the lid to create extra, subtle, definition to the eye. Known for high colour pay-off.

Matte 2 finish eyeshadows are exactly the same as the regular matte eyeshadows with the difference of texture. They are more buttery and easier to blend.

Satin finish eyeshadows are a more subtle and soft iridescent colour, although they are not meant to be frosty, they have a silky finish to the eye with good colour pay-off. Not too matte but not too frosty/shimmery.

Veluxe finish eyeshadows are said to be a lot like matte eyeshadows in their application with a less powdery appearance.

Veluxe pearl finish eyeshadows are similar to the veluxe finish eyeshadows but with a slight metallic shimmer to them.

Satin Taupe & Naked Lunch Satin Taupe & Naked Lunch
I applied Naked Lunch all over the lid & onto the tearduct area, I then blended Satin Taupe through the crease to create more definition.

Packaging

If you purchase the eyeshadows in the pots, like I have, you will receive a product which is not only fantastic within itself, but the packaging around it is very well made. It is a very sturdy black plastic pot with a clear lid with the ‘MAC’ embellishment on top. The clear lid is a fabulous idea as you are able to see the colour without opening it up. Also, on the bottom of the packaging is the name of the eyeshadow and what finish it is. This is especially helpful for things like blog posts, YouTubers, makeup artists, etc. as it is easier to refer to the name than trying to describe the product itself, some colours are so similar due to the vast variety, making this simply impossible.

Overall, these eyeshadows are worth the hype, well from these three I have tried & purchased! I could not be happier with the quality of the products; they have such brilliant pigmentation, no fall-out (that I’ve noticed) and they stay all day & even night. If you are wanting to treat yourself, then I say go for it, or they would even make a fab present for a friend/family member who’s into makeup, I know if i received even one of these I would be more than happy!

I would definitely give MAC Eyeshadows a 5/5, I highly recommend them & would certainly recommend them to friends and family. I’m sure I’ll be purchasing more in the future, but for now I’m just going to enjoy the ones I own.

Thank you for reading my post, if you have any questions about MAC Eyeshadows or these specific shades I own, feel free to comment below! 🙂 ♥
